A relatively uncommercialised period of celebration, events for 2019 include:
Christmas double concerts in Saint Mark’s Square (Piazzetta san Marco)
– 7 of December – Vocal Skyline
– 28 of December – Big Vocal Orchestra a 200 Venetian chorists
The concerts will start at 6.00 pm . Free admission.
Church services at the Basilica in St. Mark’s Square and throughout Venice on Christmas Eve (Midnight Mass), Christmas Day and New Year’s Day

An open air ice-skating rink at Campo San Polo from 07 Dec 19 to 25 Feb 20
A small fairground on the Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront between St. Mark’s Square and the Arsenale
A countdown to midnight and to the deep peal of St. Mark’s Campanile ringing in the New Year, followed by fireworks over the water of the ‘Bacino di San Marco’. Please bear in mind that St. Mark’s Square gets extremely busy on New Year’s Eve so you may well prefer to celebrate somewhere less crowded!
Also worth noting is that some restaurants offer a special set ‘Cenone di San Silvestro/Capodanno’ dinner on the evening of New Year’s Eve which often consists of a number of courses and which, depending on restaurant, can prove to be very expensive! Reservations are advised/often essential if you choose to dine out.
Or you can choose to dine at home ‘a casa’ with your family, friends and guests in one of our apartments and leave arrangements to your chef .
