There’s absolutely no better way of getting to know Venezia than directly through its Veneziani, as Marco from Client Relations and Marta from Reservations, members of our 30-strong team based right here beside the Accademia Bridge

    • An insider tip that you’d like to keep to yourself (but don’t mind sharing with our guests!)
      • Marco: When you feel lost in Venice don’t stop walking, you’re going to end up someplace you recognise. At least that’s what my grandparents used to say!
      • Marta: Never eat seafood on Mondays – the Rialto fish market is closed!
    • Best place to sit and people-watch?
      • Marco: There’s a little staircase that sits on the Grand Canal right in front of where I used to go to middle school near San Samuele, where you can watch people go by on their boats
      • Marta: Il Chioschetto bar on the Zattere

    • Where would you head for lunch with a group of friends?
    • Best coffee spot in Venice?
        • Marco: Every Venetian has many favourite coffee spots, your choice depending on where you are in the city. My personal favourite would be Pasticceria Ponte delle Paste near Campo San Lio
        • Marta: Moro Cafè at Palazzo Franchetti just by Campo Santo Stefano
    • Favourite shop and why?
        • Marco: That’s a difficult question, I prefer having memories rather than objects. If I have to say one it would be bottega D3sign, where a friend of mine makes jewellery using traditional Venetian artisanal techniques
        • Marta: The cosy La Toletta bookshop with its knowledgeable staff who are happy to give you great suggestions
    • Favourite tramezzino filling?
        • Marco: Porchetta and radicchio, for sure
        • Marta: The classic old-fashioned ham & eggs with mayo
    • If money were no object, what restaurant would you choose for a special occasion?
        • Marco: Rosa Rossa in Calle de la Mandola in the sestiere of San Marco, it’s not the most renowned but it’s a personal favourite of mine
        • Marta: Da Celeste on the narrow island of Pellestrina in the southern lagoon (ask us for transport options!)
    • Favourite place for an aperitivo before dinner?
        • Marco: Bacarando in Corte dell’Orso (no longer the hidden place it once was) near the Rialto Bridge
        • Marta: Schiavi near our office (as known as Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi or Al Bottegon)
    • Favourite view in Venice?
        • Marco: From the top of the San Giorgio bell tower on island of San Giorgio Maggiore opposite St. Mark’s Square
        • Marta: From Punta Della Dogana at the end of a walk on a sunny day
    • Favourite place for a day trip by train and why?
        • Marco: Bassano del Grappa, offering totally different scenery to Venice but a truly magical place
        • Marta:Verona – close by, nice city with good food and great wine!
    • Perfect souvenir of Venice to take back home? (apart from great memories!)
        • Marco: ‘Murrine’ glass canes used to decorate glass objects crafted in Murano’s glass furnaces
        • Marta: A little carved model of a ‘forcola’ – a wooden oar lock in which a gondolier positions his oar while rowing his gondola – handmade made in Cannaregio by Piero Dri ‘Il Forcolaio Matto’ (the Crazy Forcola Maker)
    • And finally, which Views on Venice property do you have a ‘soft spot’ for and why?
        • Marco: Ca’ delle Carrozze in the Castello district – its contemporary furniture offers a great contrast to traditional Venetian style
        • Marta: Ca’ Cerchieri Terrace with its unique location inside a truly Venetian Palazzo – waking up in the principal bedroom with an open view over the private terrace on the Grand Canal is priceless!
